Why I Give

“I give because I have an affinity for helping people, feeling as though I am making a positive impact on others’ lives is important to me. One of my favorite things about Heritage is the Foundation, I take great pride and comfort in knowing that residents will not lose their home if they have outlived their assets thanks to the Heritage Legacy Fund. I think that the legacy fund is an amazing and unique component of our organization and it makes me proud to be a part of the Heritage family.” Melanie Potter, Human Resources Assistant

“One of the major reasons my family and I give back to Heritage is that I know it is making a difference in our seniors’ lives every day. It’s a level playing field here, no matter who you are, where you’re from, or what your background is, all residents are cared for and treated with the utmost dignity and respect.” Mark Hudgins, Director of Dining Services

“I give because it is so important to me to keep our friends in their home for as long as possible here at Heritage Community. I believe in our mission and vision as a company so strongly that I want to give to help support that as much as I can." Amanda Dolhay, Administrative Assistant, Wyndham West & Amber Way

"I give to Heritage because I feel that I am a part of something much larger than myself. And when you feel connected to something, there is also a sense of responsibility for its success. The Heritage Legacy Fund is one of the great things of Heritage that I am proud to be a part of. To know that I am helping an elderly person in need stay in their home gives me a wonderful feeling of purpose." A favorite quote that I try to live by is, “It’s not how much we give, but how much love we put into giving” – Mother Teresa. Kelley Fast-Kucharczyk, Senior Executive Administrative Assistant

“Philanthropy is inherent to my personal philosophy. I give because making an impact not only makes me feel good, it inspires others to act. As a mission driven organization, I am proud to contribute towards Heritage and all that it encompasses. Giving comes in so many forms, being able to see the work that we do each day gives me solace in knowing that we are truly enriching people’s lives.” Lindsey Hemmerlein, Fund Development and Volunteer Coordinator

“I give to the Heritage Community Foundation because I have been fortunate enough to see the good it does first hand for the people we serve each day. Being in a “sales” role affords me the opportunity to meet with prospective residents at the very beginning of their journey when making the decision to move to a retirement community. I always talk with our sales team about their title, “sales counselor”, and how so much of what we do throughout the process should be ‘counseling’ the prospective resident and their family to provide them with the information needed to make a big decision. When we get to share the 70+ year legacy of Heritage Community with people, it means so much to them that we’re a local, non-profit organization that has their best interests at hand. I take pride in knowing that the work I do every day helps people get the care, attention and love that every person deserves later in life.” Matt Shankle, Director of Sales and Marketing

“Giving is a chance to make a bit of a difference so it is a great feeling to be part of something that will help others. Working for Heritage has been and is a blessing in my life so I want to give back every little bit goes a long way.” Tammy Kelly, Life Enrichment Coordinator, Wyndham West

"I give because I believe in the mission and culture of Heritage and I appreciate the support that the Foundation provides to both residents and staff. Kalamazoo is an amazing community that cares deeply about the people who live here and heritage is deeply rooted in the community. I personally feel it's an honor to support our community by giving to the Foundation in recognition of people who have given so much personally and professionally and continue to give through their wisdom and examples. I guess I give because they gave so much!" Myra Johnson, Vice President of Human Resources, Heritage Community of Kalamazoo

"I am proud to be able to give back to help someone that may need it in any way. Words can’t express how much love I have for the residents at Heritage Community. I enjoy coming into work and seeing them. It’s very important to me to let them know that they are loved and cared for too." June Dorner, Housekeeping

"I was blessed to be raised with numerous loved ones of various ages around me.  Parents, Grandparents, aunts, uncles, and dear friends who all imparted wisdom, guidance, joy, and love upon me.  They all did so much to ensure my life was easier and better than they could only dream.  I believe it is my duty, my honor and my privilege to help our seniors in any way possible. Giving to Heritage Community is my way to say thank you to those who paved my way." Jane Brogger, Heritage Community Foundation

"Heritage Community has been my work home for 26 years.  One of the reasons I have loved working here is because we are a unique organization that believes in supporting the people who live here when they have exhausted their resources.  I have always been gratified to support such an important and personal cause." Ann Richards, Community Director, Wyndham West, Amber Way, and Amber Place

"Giving back to Heritage is how I personally demonstrate my thankfulness for being part of an organization that gives back to the community. I consider it a luxury to share with my friends and neighbors that I work at a place that not only cares about the residents that it serves, but that takes it one step further, by ensuring that the residents continue to get the care they need even when they can no longer financially afford to do so." Traci Patnoude, Director of Wyndham Apartments

"I give because I care deeply about the people who live and work here. I feel it's a privilege to share my personal gifts in recognition of the people who have come before me and made this organization a wonderful home for so many seniors through the decades." Kim Loftus, Executive Director
