Mary Little Tyler to receive the 3rd Annual Purple Poppy Award

Mary Little Tyler will receive the Purple Poppy Award from Heritage Community of Kalamazoo for her dedicated support of the organization's mission and vision. This award presentation will be made at the Heritage Community Foundation Gala on Thursday, April 20, 2017. Mrs. Tyler was selected by the Heritage Community of Kalamazoo Board of Directors for her service and advocacy for older adults and their families in Kalamazoo and southwest Michigan.

Nursing Scholarship

Elaine G. Amaya-Martin of Kalamazoo and Jacob L. DeMott of Portage have been selected as the 2016 William Carter Lowe, M.D. Nursing Scholarship recipients from Heritage Community of Kalamazoo. Elaine is continuing her nursing program at Kalamazoo Valley Community College (KVCC) and Jacob is attending Kellogg Community College (KCC).

The Clyde and Colette Gillette family has made a gift to Heritage Community of Kalamazoo Foundation. This gift will provide staff education opportunities for direct care staff at Heritage Community of Kalamazoo.

The Heritage Legacy Fund Shares Sophie's Story

Heritage Community of Kalamazoo Foundation

Heritage Community Foundation is proud to share Sophie's story, a touching, personal account of the lives that have been affected by our generous donors. Sophie's story began in 1999 when she and her husband, Robert, moved to Heritage Community. Quickly making friends, socializing and tending to the general store, Sophie was an integral, much-loved resident. Family members recall her selfless spirit, telling of how she once jumped headlong to catch a friend in distress.

2016 Purple Poppy Award Recipient Announced

Bill Millard - Purple Poppy Award 2016

Bill Millard will receive the 2016 Purple Poppy Award from Heritage Community of Kalamazoo. Mr. Millard was chosen for his dedicated support of the organization’s mission and vision as well as in recognition for his service, impact and advocacy on behalf of older adults at Heritage Community and in Southwest Michigan.

2016 Second Annual Heritage Community Foundation Gala Announced

Heritage Community Foundation Gala, April 21, 2016

The 1960s themed Heritage Community Foundation Gala took place on Thursday, April 21, 2016 in the Upper Loft in downtown Kalamazoo. The Upper Loft is located in the historic Entertainment District building and is also home to Monaco Bay and the Sky Deck.

Matching Challenge Gift Met!

Matching Challenge Gift Met!

Thanks to an anonymous donor who made a challenge matching gift, and donors who met the challenge, the William Carter Lowe, M.D. Education Fund is refortified with $21,835 for future scholarships to Heritage Community employees pursuing their nursing degrees. Since 2005, fourteen employees have received scholarships through this fund.

2015 Heritage Community Foundation Invitational Golf Outing


The golf outing on September 14, 2015 at the Kalamazoo Country Club raised $17,500 for the Memory Care Initiatives Fund, which provides programs and services for residents living in memory care communities at Heritage Community of Kalamazoo.
