Mary Little Tyler to receive the 3rd Annual Purple Poppy Award

Heritage Community Foundation

Mary Little Tyler will receive the Purple Poppy Award from Heritage Community of Kalamazoo for her dedicated support of the organization’s mission and vision. This award presentation will be made at the Heritage Community Foundation Gala on Thursday, April 20, 2017.

Mrs. Tyler was selected by the Heritage Community of Kalamazoo Board of Directors for her service and advocacy for older adults and their families in Kalamazoo and southwest Michigan.

"We are honored to recognize Mary as this year’s Purple Poppy Award recipient,” according to Jay Prince, President and CEO of Heritage Community of Kalamazoo. “She served on the board during a significant growth phase of the organization that defines who we are today. Mary may have last served on the board in 1984, but her guidance and support have continued through the years.”

Mrs. Tyler served on the Heritage Community of Kalamazoo Board of Directors from 1975 to 1984 and as board secretary from 1980-81. She served at a time of growth and expansion for the organization on the Portage Street campus that included a large addition to the Upjohn Care and Rehabilitation Center as well as the board decision to build a new independent living apartment building that would become Wyndham. As a board member, she was instrumental in raising funds and awareness for various programs and capital projects.

Mrs. Tyler has also served on many other boards, including those of Bronson Health Foundation, Family and Children's Services, Kalamazoo Air Zoo, Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, Salvation Army and SLD Read.
